Meet some of our Wiconi Volunteers/Interns:

We were deeply grateful as Brent Anderson; Vice President of Private Banking at Pacific Continental Bank in Vancouver prayerfully came to our side as a volunteer and honorary chair of our first Dessert Fundraiser. Brent and his wife Jen have been married ten years and are seasoned believers with a heart for nonprofits and Native ministry. Brent is very interested in youth ministry and has organized events bolstering emerging nonprofits on behalf of Pacific Continental who believes in community Partnerships.
In September, the Lord brought us Cheryl Deland. Cheryl, Ute and Navajo. Cheryl has been married to Ben for 30 years and they have three children Tom, Tim and Tiffani as well as 3 beautiful granddaughters. She has worked in the emergency room at Southwest Washington Medical Center for 8 years and now works part-time as a hospice/home health caregiver. “God has given me a hunger to pray for my people for their healing and deliverance,” Cheryl told us.  Starting with one day a week, she is now planning to spend more time in the office as her schedule allows.

Volunteering with Wiconi International

Why Volunteer?
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Wiconi International. We are delighted in your interest and hope that your experience will be as much a blessing to you as you will be to the lives of many who seek a new life in Jesus Christ. We believe that true leadership in ministry is rooted in the profound witness of service. We appreciate and welcome individuals/couples and church groups interested in working together with us to serve specifically in Native Christian Ministry but to also reach out to other Native community events that may not necessarily have a ministry focus. We believe our witness is best exemplified in reaching out with love and respect for the diverse cultural expression of faith.

Background: Volunteer Projects
A few years ago the youth group from City Harvest Community Church began visiting the Warm Springs Reservation to work with a local church.  Following their first project during a summer visit, they returned during the annual Lincoln Day Powwow in February.  They served over the weekend in many ways including, sweeping floors, emptying trash, keeping restrooms cleaned, preparing food, and serving food and then after the powwow attendees had gone home, they cleaned the whole Longhouse for the next days use.  The group has continued to serve at Warm Springs for over five years, and recently was invited to participate in the annual Pi-Um-Sha Powwow in June.
It was from observing this group that we decided to move ahead with a long time desire to form a group of Wiconi volunteers to serve the native community.  We have had several from different churches in the Vancouver, WA., Portland, OR. area join us for several events throughout the year as well as individuals and couples who have been prompted by the spirit to join us in serving Native people.

Volunteer Program Goals
To Remove Barriers and Build Bridges by:

  • Serving and honoring the native community
  • Initiating and maintaining relationships with members of the native community
